Is it nice in your Snowstorm, Freezing your Brain, part 3

Another day in the single digits. Even Tucson was 22 degrees yesterday. Jeez!

Around here. the poor horses are tiptoeing on snowballs!

Annie has ice over her eyes.
Neither of my cars are starting in the morning. I have to wait a couple of hours for that solar energy to warm them up first.

I went to buy water last night and the store was sold out!

Will it ever warm up?

Oh, I am soooo sorry to hear this news. I just went back and read your other posts. I hope you have water now. This winter has been the pits.

Our night temps have been around 8 which actually isn't too bad for us in central Pennsylvania in February. My cars start thankfully - I guess there is different types of anti-freeze for different areas of the country -?

It is ironic - all this snow and no water. Our water in the barn froze so we had a plumber out today to fix the pipe and faucet out there - $800 dollars later - we have water. Ugh!

Luckily, we do have water to the pastures - and a plug-in bucket to keep their water warm.

I haven't seen snow balls on feet yet - I hope your sweeties are doing better - especially your little Buddha - poor honey.

What do you do when the store is sold out of water?

Good thoughts that it is getting warmer soon!

Yikes! You just reminded me to go put a blanket over the washing machine. Thanks!

Yep, it's getting old. There may be some more snow early next week and cold weather again - perhaps not as cold as last time, but cold.

Hang in there. The groundhog didn't see his shadow so we should have an early Spring.

We have been in the banana belt up here in the North West!

Do you put oil or crisco on the bottoms of thier feet to keep the ice from building up? Yallas dainty little hooves full of ice! Poor baby.
Oh and I better knock on wood!! LOL winter isnt over yet, we have had snow as late and April up here!

Dan- I heard that Punxatawney Phil has only been right about 39% of the time, not very good odds. Besides, what does he know about our part of the country?

I'm still waiting for the plumber to call me back...Need to call another one I guess. Here in the Southwest, it seldom drops into double negatives or stays below freezing for days on end. Since this storm, I have heard of lots and lots of water pipes breaking in businesses and homes both. I'm sure the plumbers are extremely busy.

I tried three stores last night before I found one with water. I'm talking about the water stations where you can fill gallon and five gallon water bottles (self serve vending machines). I do melt snow but it takes forever and is not very potable.

I think the horses must be eating snow because when I offer them fresh drinks they don't take very much.

I didn't know about oiling the hooves. Thanks! Now to remember to do it before it freezes next time.

K, I hate to admit this, but I've never seen ice balls in horse feet before!! I know it happens, but I've never seen it in person. It doesn't look fun!!
Hope you warm up soon. Sending warm AZ temps your way. Sposed to get in the 60's today, yippee!

Oh, iceballs, I've had to deal with those only not for a long time. I had never heard of them before I experienced them. Poor horses, I can only imagine the strain on their fetlocks.

I'll have to remember about Crisco for future reference.

your welcome FV We have really wet snow up here and riding in the snow, the horses, especially with shoes on get ice balls under thier feet!

Yalla!s feet remind me of those ancient Asian women who wore high heel shoes too tiny for their feet, which made them walk, sort of like how Yalla!s feet look with ice balls. They still don't stop her from trotting across the arena with her beautiful flagging tail :)

You made me laugh reading your comment to Dan about "Punk Phil".
Seriously. Do we even have groundhogs in New Mexico? lol!

I wonder what other countries think of us Americans who put so much faith into the weather predictions of a ground hog?

Ugh! I'm so sick of the cold too. You can use Pam (or other brands) cooking spray on their hooves to prevent the ice stilts. I hope you get a break from the weather soon.

I will definitely buy a can of spray cooking oil for their feet. Thanks guys!
