Yeah, people do, all the time, which is why they keep doing it. Greed is a pretty powerful thing and sometimes it overpowers thought!

Silly isn't it , but I suppose if they get someone to respond... sure hope no one does I report them when I get emails like that

Sadly yes they do. In fact there was an older lady here that got scammed and the bank teller actually helped keep her from getting ripped off.

Her scammer contacted her with the version that a distant/long lost relative died and left her money. She needed to pay a courier an exorbitant amount (I think $20,000) for a suitcase to be delivered which would contain her inheritance. When she told the teller what she needed the money for the teller told her that it didn't sound quite right and to contact the police 'just in case'. After all if it was legit then there would be no problem but if it wasn't...
Of course it wasn't. I have to commend the teller for stepping in. Its too easy to look the other way for fear of embarassing someone or over stepping your bounds.

These scams prey on the naive, the uninformed and the greedy "looking to get rich quick" types.

I hate these emails. I have been getting a few lately, and have been deleting them.
Unfortunately people do fall for these scams, which is so sad. I also hate how people actually send these emails out to scam people!

It's amazing, but I agree with the previous comments. Scammers have the ability to send out millions of messages and you only need 1 percent response to make worth while.

They're the scum o fthe earth as far as I'm concerned.

I get a handful of these every day in my junk mail file, I mark them a phishing scam and they get deleted. I NEVER open them.

well, just in case anyone thought I was passing this information on, I'd already altered the email and there is a digit missing from the phone number.

Darn. I wondered why I was getting a busy signal.

Actually in our credit unions we try to stop members from sending money to these asshats all the time. Especially eldery people. It's awful.
