Hang on to yourself

Annie is still hanging on to that foal. Today, she is at 336 days of gestation.

A few nights ago it was a full moon.

One night, it was very, very windy.

Yesterday, I was away at school all day and attended a meeting that lasted late into the night.

It rained all last night and most of this morning.

What does it take?

She isn't as active as usual and she seems to have slowed down on eating. She stands at the back of the paddock away from everybody and hangs her head low, quite often now.

Her teats are very full and hard.

She likes to be scratched on her neck, always has, but maybe even more so. Look at that lip curl down. Her bottom lip trembles.
She really likes to back up to me and spread her hind legs as if I can do something about it! I would name this foal Erotica but the name has already been taken. lol.

I also noticed this morning that her hind leg has swollen up. She's not lame. I think it's from the pressure of the foal, or something. Has anyone experienced anything like it?

I have slept out in the barn four nights now. So has Lisa and her kids. We use the tent because the air is so dusty with hay bits and dirt. Also, it's cold! It's been in the 40's every night this month, I think.

I just wonder if, when the time does come, we'll sleep through it. I do like to sit in her metal feeder and watch but Scout drives me crazy by hanging his head through the rail and teasing me. He nuzzles and nuzzles and every once in a while, nips. Such a bad boy, Scout.

Place your bets, people. It can't be much longer, can it? (fingers crossed!)

I'm sure Annie's more ready than anybody. I think you need to name this foal 'Stubborn.'

Or maybe 'Slowpoke.'

Poor Annie. I still say it's going to happen around 1:30 in the morning, so my new guess is tomorrow morning. And, Scout, gotta love him. I love that horse!

The swelling in her hind leg ,could be edema, often you will find it close to foaling along the "milk viens and down her back legs , try walking her a little to help disperse it .If it is not severe ,don't worry . If she is backing off the feed that could be a good sign , she is looking good in the pics .In all honesty I prefer to sleep through it.Good Luck ! I am not voting again ecxept to say I bet it will be a beauty!

Let's hope it's tonight or tomorrow morning then. This schedule is putting me behind in my school studies.

Darn -- assuming no baby at 4:12 AM this morning (11th). New day - June 14 at 12:12 AM. Bay stud colt.

No, still no foal!

I imagine this one's going to be keeping us hanging another day or two. Today is my busy school day- three classes from 10 AM until 7:30PM. I get a break around 3:00 so I'll come home and see what's up. Hopefully, they'll wait until 9:00 tonight.

I am more interested in a healthy Annie foaling a healthy foal than seeing the actual birthing although it would be pretty neat. I'm just so scared of something going wrong and me not knowing what to do.

I'm going to guess again....

June 12th at 3:30 am. Baby Filly.....

and maybe even twins (?!) gah! I hope not, but gee that gal is wide!

Come on Annie. Everyone wants to love on your baby! Poor Val needs some more sleep and less worries. And you'll feel so much better afterwards, too.
You're going to be such a great Mama!

I'm mad at Annie for not having her foal on the 8th. You can tell her I said so.
