Sunday Stills (4/01/12 Birdstalking)

This week's Sunday Stills challenge is Birdstalking. On a trip to Tingley Beach (a local man-made fishing lake) and the Rio Grande Bosque (woods) I was able to stalk, or be stalked by, these birds:

These Geese are playing follow the leader.

I forget what this is called but I love it's feet.

Even ducks have itches to scratch.

Anyone know what these birds are? This area is near the zoo so they could be exotic.
Here's a very poor close up of them.
I was lucky to see a great horned owl up in a tree. She watched me as I walked all around the bottom of her tree.

The owl is very cool and I love the itchy duck as you can see color you wouldn't normally see on him.

Great pictures. The black birds might be cormorants (sp)?

Yep cormorants fer sure, they are usually a costal bird but I've seen them in Colorado, they have a whole nesting rookery at the Denver Zoo and are free to travel. Great shots..:-)
