Happy 1st Birthday to my sweet Yalla! FantastyKheema!!

She is now officially a Yearling! Yay!!!!!

I think Yalla! is on the small side. She stands approximately 12.2hh and weighs about 460 pounds. I'm hoping she'll be a late bloomer. Her hooves and knees still turn out a little. I didn't measure her rump but it sure looks high in this picture!

I believe she is going to stay dark, some sort of bay as far as Arabian coloring goes, which makes me very happy, but she could be a dun or a black bay or even a brown. She still has a lot of fuzz going on; it's those cold nights we always get. It was 42 degrees the other night!
You can especially see the line of fuzz on her belly and on her body where she's not shiny.

She's funny. She takes after her mother in that eating to her is secondary. She'd much rather look around and follow me around the barn than go eat. Whenever I brush or pet Annie, she'll stop eating, half close her eyes and just melt.

Anyway, Happy Birthday to my Yalla!

One - song: Baby, artist: Iggy Pop and David Bowie, album: The Idiot

She has the sweetest face! Very pretty.

I never did like the yearling age. Seems they are never at their best conformationally and so hard to judge where they are going. The two year old year you can really start to see where they are going. How big was the sire?

Liked the Scout history on the prior post, too. He is definitely a horse of a different color!

Happy birthday Yalla! If she has a stripe down her back she would be a dun.

Thanks everyone!

Tammy- mom is 14.3 and dad is 15.1. I'm hoping she makes 15.

Sydney- yes, I would probably call her a dark dun but the Arabian breed doesn't recognize that as a color. Only five: black, bay, gray, chestnut, and roan. I don't know that I've actually seen more than one or two roan Arabians ever so I'm not sure why it's listed as it's own color category while the other colors are not.

Perhaps the Arabian registry needs to upgrade it's software :0) AQHA changed it's list of colors a few years ago to include Bay Roan as a separate color, and added cremello and perlino. Now if I can just get them to add smoky black....
Yalla! is purty no matter what color she ends up as. Happy Birthday, little cutie!

Happy Birthday sweet Yalla!
She is so adorable! Love that face and those cute tippy Arabian ears! She is so similar to Chance in color, but Chance has more red in her mane and tail.
I can't wait for next year to really get a good idea on color and height. I hate the waiting!

What a beautiful face on that little girl. Stunning!

I was working on irrigation today and realized that I was home for both Beretta's and Shooter's birthdays and didn't even remember. Poor babies. ;)

I think Yalla is black. It is very common for black horses to show a dorsal stripe when they are shedding out and also for their winter hair to look brown.

LOL-I didn't know that much about black horses until we had our old stallion. He produced numberous black offspring and the first one I thought was a grulla, then she turned brown. I was so disappointed. When she finally shed out the next spring, she was coal black, so I had her color changed on her papers. The next one, all of us swore was a grullo. His mother was a grulla and he was very, very blue as a foal. Nope. He turned brown and the next year shed off coal black. Mom never did change his papers. We did get smarter and the others we registered as blacks. But they all went through the same funky color changes.

BEC- more and more I am convinced that she will be a black, or a black-bay, most likely, like her daddy. This makes me so happy because I have never owned a black horse and now I'll have a dark Arabian, to boot!

I do love her little face too. And her thick mane. Gosh, she has more forelock than any of my other horses!

Am I really over 2 weeks behind in catching up on your blog? sorry!

Happy belated birthday for lovely Yalla!

Your photos show such a grown up looking filly. She has really matured over the past few weeks, especialy now that she's mostly shed out.
That first photo is especially lovely, showcasing her beautiful neck.
I just love her little tippy ears. awww!
