Murders on the Heels

This is not what I'd expect to find in my horses water barrels but it's happened several times since the farrier came a few weeks ago. Sorry about the poor quality. The water was iced over and I broke it to see what it was. I had to fish it out with bare arms and the water level was past my elbows. Brrrr!

I blame the ravens. It's like seeing golf balls in my pasture, miles and miles from any golf course. They think they're eggs so they take them and then drop them in nowhere land, miles later. I'll bet they think this is a snake. What do you think?

We've learned to pick those up if we can after a recent incident with a client. She has a rescue with numerous wild donkeys. One started limping mysteriously, so Wade had to go out and rope it to catch it (very wild beasties) sure enough, it had a hoof trimming wrapped around it's back pastern. As the trimming dried out, it constricted and ended up cutting into that pastern. No one noticed it with all the hair they've got on right now. Isn't that bizarre? Donkey is better now. Never imagined that happening, but it did.

I can't tell what it is but I bet the horses can. We have one waterer in the middle pasture that the crows/ravens think is a great sink for washing off their dinner. We've found pieces of snakes and other body parts in there. The horses won't touch the water if something is floating.

Is that hoof clippings? That's too funny. If that was happening here I would blame Chrome lol. He'll play with anything. :D

Very interesting. Mine don't stick around long as the dogs hover and the second it's safe, they snatch and go with them. I have hit them with the lawnmower and it sounds like I'm hitting a honking big rock-LOL.

i'm having problems with crows this year, even worse than last year. they are scavenging around my stall and paddock and even my garden and birdfeeder. i cannot feed my birds cuz of the crows who are planning, it seems to nest in our front yard. bad news for me, i've been attacked by nesting crows twice.

i don't mind the daily noise pollution from the dozens of crows that live by our ponds, but when they move into our garden, that is too much. they also spread my horse manure in my paddock everywhere so it's hard to clean up.

Mikey- what a crazy thing!

Gray Horse- yes, one time I found a little carcass joint, with the meat still attached, in their water barrel. Yuck!

Achieve1Dream- if it's not the ravens, then it probably is Yalla! She likes to grab stuff with her teeth all the time. I've seen her hold a stick in her mouth, like a dog.

BEC- Sandy has eaten them but I think there's just too many pieces for her at a time. Somewhere on line there's a website that polishes hoof parts into gem like pieces. I want to do that some day.

Lytha- that's too bad about having so many crows around. And to be attacked! My ravens fly away when I get to close to them.

How weird. Wonder how it got there?

This reminds me. Apache did the silliest thing today with her water bucket. It wasn't time to feed her dinner, but she saw me put the llamas and goats into the bigger paddock and she wanted some attention, too....either dinner or playtime with the llamas and goats, I imagine.
So, she picked up her 1/4 full water bucket and tossed it to the side until it emptied out and rolled away.
Then she stood there nodding her head and flapping her lips.

Too funny. lol!
