I love watching jumping horses but I must confess, I just don't think I could EVER do that! I find it incredible that this horse is jumping obstacles that are taller than the fences used to contain my horses. Heck, those jumps are taller than my horses!
I can't imagine riding this course. I have a terrible memory and I get in a panic any time I have to remember a course, such as in trail or equitation classes. I want to learn dressage, but again, I'm afraid of taking the tests.

Jumping is a blast, but I am definitely not as good at it as I once was. Why is it that after you have babies, something changes??? LOL!!! Dressage is great too, and on the lower levels, you don't have to memeorize your test... someone can read it too you.
The neat thing about Dressage is that you end up memorizing the various tests anyway, because there are only a few of them. I say go for it!!!
wow! I think I saw that horse's invisible wings show up on a few of those taller jumps. Flawless jumps. But the horse looked a little teed off kicking out and ears pinned after a few of those higher jumps. That was a skilled rider with a very good seat able to stay on during all of that and the jumps.
I agree about the jumping being scary, too. Seems like there are so many accidents during horse jumping. It is fun to watch, though. :)

Pretty incredible! That horse sure does love to jump! If he didn't like it, he wouldn't have made it that far in training and showing.
I have never jumped higher than 3'3", and that was many moons ago.
You don't memorize the coursesor dressage tests the same way you memorize the multiplication tables or poetry in French. You remember lines of jumps(all the jumps along this side or the ring, then...) and sets of figures.
Lisa Laughing Orca is right though, about the kicking out. He might be uncomfortable. Maybe that is how he changes his leads and it's a quirk. Hard to tell.
Oh yeah............If you think memorizing the tests is the hardest thing about dressage.............

Definitely, Dressage is high school- not so easy. But I have an extraordinarily short term memory AND test anxiety. When I used to show horses, trail class gave me the jitters because I worried about the order of the obstacles.
I used to have a 3rd level trained dressage horse (she was trained and shown before I bought her) that I could do alternate flying changes, half passes, traversals, etc. and she could even kneel. I loved to do impromptu performances with her but I've never done formal dressage.
Looks like a blast...I could never do it! :)
That was an awesome video of an amazing horse that seemed to have springs like a deer for those large jumps! He was a handfull at times and what was the kicking about..maybe a misplaced heal?
Wow..thanks, I love to jump but am jsut getting back into it..don't know if I will ever compete..very stressful and I don't care that much!
