The Big Fall, part 5

As the weather warms up and I'm getting around a little better nowadays, I open my back door and look longingly at the horses in their barn. It's such a long, treacherous way when you've only got one good leg. I still cannot put any weight on my broken leg and it's an uneven gravel path that I don't know if the wheelchair can even do.
But my daughter was an angel and brought Nadia over to me!
At first, Nadia was a little curious about my metal contraption but really just preferred to blow horse snot all over me.
I am supposed to sit with my bad leg up in the air but the darn wheelchair leg extender refuses to cooperate sometimes. I think Nadia was trying to help.
I had thoughts of riding Nadia out to the barn but decided against it, this time. She was shedding a lot and I'm not able to take full baths yet. I wasn't too keen on getting all dirty, not with my leg in bandages. Still, that might be my best way to get over there. Getting off again would be the hardest part, wouldn't it?

We both enjoyed the warm afternoon sun and the little bit of grass beginning to grow.
Scout, meanwhile, continuously neighed and trotted the fence line, so I could see he's feeling okay now, three weeks after our fall. It's actually the first time I've seen him move since then and I'm glad he's doing well.
Thank goodness for zoom lenses!

Mother's Day came a day early for me!

I have been following your recovery & feel so bad that this happened and WHEN it happened... right before ride season. Having been there, I know how difficult it is being one legged. My horses were very scared of me on crutches and I had a hard time getting them to approach me. Then I was afraid they would bump my leg; it was a long 6 weeks.

Get well soon & glad Sheila helped you out.

Missed you on the FBMDR. Come again & stay longer.

Lol, well you must be feeling better if you're contemplating hopping on a horse :) Give yourself just a lil bit longer to heal.
Happy Mother's Day!

So glad you got out. I know it must be hard to not see the horses. You need to teach Nadia how to drive then you can get a wheelchair bannedwagon http://saddlechariot.blogspot.com/2010/10/driving-bannedwaggon-round-west-town.html

It's good you got out in the sunshine and even better you got to visit with Nadia and see Scout. Hope your recovery is quick.

Awwww, such an uplifting post and such a sweet thing for your gorgeous daughter to do for you, and on Mother's Day weekend no less. Having Nadia's gentle face beside you must have really lifted your spirits.
Take it easy a while before you go jumping on the back of horse, though, ok? But it's great to hear you already planning for it. :)

Happy Mother's Day to you!

Nice pictures and a great thing for your daughter to do. Horses can be very healing.

Don't do anything foolish too quickly.

Everyone is giving you such great advice. However I bet you could ride over there as long as you have a good set of helpers to load and unload ya.

:)

This is why I never went into medicine.

Happy belated mommy day.

Ohhh...I totally feel for you. Lisa at Laughing Orca Ranch reads my blog too and sent me over here. I broke my foot (in a much less interesting way) on March 26. I'm just reaching the end of my temporary disability now. It has been so frustrating to not be able to do anything. I especially miss my horses - I can't really get anywhere near them because of the lay of our land. It's terrible. I wish you a speedy recovery!!

Awww that was so sweet of your daughter to bring Nadia out for a visit. :) When is your recheck? After watching my boss deal with a broken ankle I hope I never have to. It must be such a pain to sit around and do nothing. I feel for you.
