Sunday Stills (05/15/11 Looking High, Looking Low)

This week's challenge was to take photos looking up or down. These are from my archives.

This is the miraculous staircase at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe. In 1878, the chapel was built with a 22 foot choir loft. However, the loft was built with no thought about access to it. Often, choir lofts had rope ladders but this chapel was for nuns. A normal staircase wouldn't fit in the small chapel. The sisters prayed about it and said a Novena and on the 9th and final day of the Novena, an out of work carpenter came to them. He buiilt it with no nails, only wooden pegs. He left before reciving payment and was never seen again.
This view, looking upwards to an exposed root tree, is from the Garden of the Gods area near Colorado Springs.

Denver has canyons of glass towers in it's downtown area.
This final shot is looking downwards at some forest scatter.

I always like seeing pics of Yalla! And her little white snip is kissable! (ask me how I know. lol!)

But that last photo is very cool with the way the water droplets are hovering in the web above the brown dry leaves. I really like the contrast of wet and dry together.

Great job!

The picture and story of the staircase are fascinating. I also love how you caught the water droplets in the last one.

Some good ones! That staircase is known as St' Joseph's staircase, as it is widely believed that it was St. Joseph himself who came to build it.
I like the last photo, looks like a crust of ice over the leaves.

I love the spiral staircase. It looks like it can keep going. The reflection and the building is quite a shot.

Wonderful photos! I love the staircase and story. Heard the story before, but hadn't seen the staircase.

I really liked the story of the staircase and the last photo is breathtaking. I'm so impressed you pulled this together with your current hardships!

Loved the "forest scatter" with the water droplets, and that staircase is really beautiful. :)

Of course I love the picture of Yalla, but that staircase is so awesome as is the story that goes with it. :D Great pictures. I wish I'd taken part in this challenge, but I just couldn't swing it.
