Wir Kinder Von Banhof Zoo

It's been a long time since I've been to the zoo. So, because I had a Biology assignment to do and she hasn't been for a long time, My mom and I went the other day. It was a beautiful day, not too hot.

Of course, I took pictures!

Here are the flamingoes. They get their pink color from the shrimp they eat.
The gorilla was next. Doesn't he look so sad? Or bored??
Here is a mother chimpanzee and her baby. He's so cute!
Here's the koala. It was hard seeing him because he was behind the tree. His exhibit smelled so good from the eucalyptus trees!
Near the koalas, there was a free flight cage that had lots of colorful little budgeriars.
Kookaburras are not only great tasting Girl Scout cookies. It is also a bird from down under.
From Australia, we move on to the dark continent, Africa. Here is a vulture and another large bird but I can't remember it's name. Known as the river horse, the hippopotamus is the main cause of death in Africa.
Here is a hyena on the prowl. Correction: African Wild Dog. :)
We got there just in time for the pinniped feeding. Any ideas? I'll tell you tomorrow. :)

How interesting. I didn't know that about how flamingos get their color. Maybe I should start eating more shrimp. I look pretty in pink. Hee hee.

Well you know, Fiona, after my stint as a Rio Grande Zoo docent I'm aware of the Pinnepeds. lol! (Bark!! Bark!!)

You were so lucky to see the spotted hyenas! I'm envious. They are very shy nocturnal creatures and are usually hiding during the day.

Ooooh! I love the vulture exhibit. Do you know they designed it with Jurrasic Park 3 in mind? Remember the 'Aviary'? lol!
It's so cool walking through that chain link bridge withe the vultures above your head. hehe!

i had to ask my man, "is bahnhof zoo the zoo or the bahnhof?" and he told me "the bahnhof" and i said "and what's the name of the zoo there?" uh, i guess it's just the zoo. but! i can say i've been to both the bahnhof zoo (bahnhof) and the zoo: ) you don't have to pay to go in berlin's zoo, you can just walk around the edges and see the animals, well, some of them. it was a great memory for me, being alone in germany my first time, wandering around berlin alone, scared, sunburned, but with good walking shoes and an ipod: )

Actually, it means the children of Banhof Zoo which is a train station in Germany. I took it from the autobiography, Christiane F., Wir Kinder Von Banhof Zoo, about a teen drug addict in the seventies who was crazy about David Bowie. I try to name all my posts with Bowie connections and since that had the word zoo...

You know, I just had to come back. For some reason that bottom photo of the 'hyena' kept haunting me. It looks more like an African Wild Dog. Are you positive that it's a hyenna? Hyennas are typically heavier, muscular, have very short tails and short traingle shaped ears. Plus the coloring of that photo is just like a Wild Dog.

Am I nuts?

ps sorry about the missing letterbox today :(

okay, I'll take that. It's an African Wild Dog. Thanks for the info. I just snap pictures and then try to remember what they were.
